Remove pits and stems from the 4 cherries, and place the cherries in a cocktail shaker. Muddle them with a muddler or a wooden spoon to bring out the juice and flavor. Leaving stems and pits intact, pierce the other 4 cherries with a garnish skewer. Set aside for the cocktail.

Squeeze the grapefruit and orange, and then using a fine mesh strainer, strain into the cocktail shaker. Add the vodka. Add a few small cubes of ice, and then shake vigorously.
1 grapefruit, 1 orange, 2 ounces vodka or gin
Using a hawthorne strainer, pour cocktail into a martin glass.
Garnish with either additinal cherries on a cocktai pick, or a dried piece of citrus.
If you want a mocktail, omit the vodka or gin and top with seltzer water
