We invite you to embark on a journey to paradise as we unveil a fresh pineapple margarita on the rocks. Bursting with the vibrant flavors of fresh pineapple, zesty lime juice, invigorating orange juice, and a splash of Cointreau and tequila, this cocktail is destined to transport you to sun-kissed beaches and swaying palm trees with every sip.
The secret to this cocktail lies in the selection of the freshest ingredients. Starting with the star of the show, the ripe and juicy pineapple, we embrace its sunny sweetness to add a tropical twist to the classic margarita. Combined with the zing of freshly squeezed lime juice, the tangy citrus notes create an irresistible harmony, taking your taste buds on an exhilarating journey.
To elevate the flavor profile even further, we introduce a splash of Cointreau, a premium orange liqueur renowned for its crisp and vibrant essence. Its sophisticated touch complements the tropical medley, lending a refined complexity to the cocktail. And of course, we can’t forget the soul of any margarita—the tequila!
What you will need to make this margarita
Tequila
You may have heard that there are two different kinds of tequila: blanco (white) and reposado (rested). Blanco is clear in color and has little flavor; reposado has been aged for at least two months in barrels made from American white oak trees but can be aged up to one year. If you want to try something different than your typical margarita then I recommend trying a blanco or reposado variety instead!
Lime Juice
To make lime juice from fresh limes, you can use the traditional method of squeezing whole limes with a citrus press or channel your inner bartender and use an electric juicer. If you opt for the latter option, be sure to remove any pulp before using it in your margarita.
Orange liqueur
Our preference for this skinny spicy margarita is Cointreau. After having tried several brands of orange liqueur, we have settled on this as our absolute go to. It has a smooth, not overly sweet flavor. It gives just the right hit of orange to any cocktail. In fact, many top bartenders do not use simple syrup in their margaritas.
Fresh Pineapple
We love the taste of fresh pineapple in a margarita. Of course if you can not find fresh pineapple, you can use pineapple juice. We always keep a few small cans of pineapple juice on hand as they are perfect as an addition for some last minute tropical cocktails. And if you love a smoky taste, you are gonna wanna make smoked pineapple to use in this cocktail. It tastes amazing and makes for some really showy garnishes!
Orange Juice
You can use either fresh or store-bought orange juice in this recipe. We prefer freshly squeezed. Trust us, it makes a difference. We always have oranges on hand at our house. When in season, look for Cara Cara oranges. Compared to other navel oranges, Cara Cara oranges are unique because they contain twenty percent more vitamin C and thirty percent more vitamin A. Cara Cara oranges are also a good source of dietary fiber, folate, potassium, and the carotenoid lycopene. They are seedless, and have such a gorgeous hue.

As snowbirds, my husband and I are here right now at our beach home in Mexico. So I can personally testify that this is one GREAT Margarita. Here we use Mexican limes (same as Key Limes – small and round like golf balls) for this recipe. It’s so good!
